CVP Offers Pre-buy Program
When the first cold snap rolls through, most people aren’t thinking about how much they paid for the propane that keeps their homes comfortable. They’re just happy about being warm. That’s why September is one of the smartest months of the year for propane customers.
Coosa Valley Propane’s annual Pre-buy Program gives customers the opportunity to purchase propane before heating season begins by locking in a price for pre-purchased gallons and taking one more uncertainty off the table before winter arrives.
For many households, propane use rises dramatically as temperatures fall. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, residential propane consumption is highest during the winter months because millions of Americans rely on it to heat their homes. Approximately 11 million U.S. households use propane as a primary fuel source, particularly in rural areas where natural gas service may not be available.
“Propane has been the heating fuel of choice for generations of rural families because it’s dependable and available where other energy options aren’t,” said Chris Hopkins, operations manager of Coosa Valley Propane. “For many of them, propane not only fuels their home heating but also water heaters, cooking appliances and generators, making it an important part of everyday life.”
Customers don’t worry about changing fuel prices for the duration of the gallons purchased. “Our Pre-buy Program is designed to give customers peace of mind,” Hopkins said. “They can purchase propane at a discounted rate before winter begins and we’ll monitor their tank levels throughout the season to help ensure they don’t run out. It’s one less thing for families to worry about.”
Throughout September, customers may purchase a minimum of 100 gallons at a locked-in rate, up to 10% above their 2025 propane usage. Those gallons can be delivered as needed from September through April 30, allowing customers to use their prepaid propane whenever it’s needed.
If any prepaid gallons remain after the program ends, customers have options. Beginning May 1, the remaining balance will be automatically converted to a dollar credit on the account for future payment for the Pre-buy Program. Customers may request a refund.
Participation is simple. Customers complete a Pre-buy Program contract and pay for the propane in full at the beginning of the program. Coosa Valley Propane technicians then monitor tank levels throughout the heating season and schedule deliveries as needed.
The Pre-buy Program is intended for residential delivery and cannot be used for bottle gas or motor home fills.
